Student Housing Surveys

J Turner Research provides student housing surveys to identify the services and amenities important to students and to recognize opportunities to improve the move-in / move-out process. Measuring students’ attitudes enables management to make adjustments and improve profitability and long-term stability in a market.

How it Works
There are three parts to the J Turner Research student housing survey system:  resident, prospect, and parent surveys.

Residents are surveyed at fall move-in and at spring renewal via email.  At move-in, we gather information on student’s first impressions and their motivations behind choosing your community.  A follow-up survey is conducted in the spring to gather information regarding maintenance, quality of living conditions, amenities, the grounds and staff at the community, and renewal possibilities.

Prospects are surveyed soon after their visit.  Each time a prospect completes a survey, you’ll receive a copy of the completed survey in your in-box.  Plus, you’ll get monthly trend reports and online survey result access – so you can review community analyses and compare your prospects’ answers with national averages.

Parents are surveyed via email at student move in and move out.  After each parent survey, you receive a detailed report that gives you unique insight into your community’s pros and cons.

Resident Reports

Fall Move-In and Spring Renewal Studies – measure perceptions on move-in regarding the onsite staff, apartment layout, amenities, and helpfulness of the resident advisor as well as what attracted the student to the property.   During spring renewal, we’ll measure opinions regarding maintenance, amenities, grounds, and onsite staff as well as a resident’s likelihood to renew his or her lease and refer friends to the community.

Prospect Reports

Quick Pulse Reports – provides your management with next-day anonymous feedback each time a prospect completes an online survey.  The responses are divided into three categories:  Leasing Agent, Value Perception, and Marketability of the property.  This report also includes information on the competition and referral sources.

Prospect Trend Reports – provides a monthly side-by-side comparison of each of your properties to each other and to company averages.  This report measures prospect response trends at each of your properties regarding personnel, pricing, value perception, and marketability.

Online Quick Pulse Reports – tabulates all prospect responses for quick viewing, especially useful for area and district managers.  The report lists all responses for a particular region and allows for sorting and drill-down capabilities to the actual survey responses if necessary.

Parent Reports
Fall and Spring Parent Studies –  summarizes the parent responses to our biannual survey.  A recent study shows that 23% of parents will visit their kids 11 times of more during the semester.  In a decade where students are closer to their parents than ever, parents can give you a unique insight into your community’s performance.
