In his second podcast, Mike Holmes, President Easlan Management Company and 2020 NAA Chairman of the Board, talks in-depth about NAA's Diversity and Inclusion initiative and how it can advance the trillion-dollar multifamily industry. He shares tips and advice on what organizations and individuals can do to successfully embrace and practice diversity rather than having it as a mere mission statement.
"We need to be a little more patient; it is not going to change overnight. This will take time, we got to be committed to it, and we need to have an individual buy-in; we need to have a buy-in as a country. We need to be intentional, urgent, and proactive about diversity and inclusion."
Holmes shares a personal anecdote on why diversity and inclusion is so close to his heart, how he draws inspiration from books by D. Watkins, and the significance of walking in someone's shoes to be meaningfully committed to building a truly diverse organization. While it will take a team effort and a long-term vision to be successful, embracing diversity starts at the individual level; a personal buy-in is critical. Holmes talks about what he is doing at an individual level to spearhead this initiative at NAA and what NAAEI can do with high schools to build a pool of professionals, including minorities.
For organizations looking for practical tips, Holmes reveals the plethora of resources NAA offers to accomplish their diversity goals.
If you are committed to moving the needle on diversity within your organization, this podcast is for you!
