"Great leaders invest in people, and they help their people to grow. When their people grow, so does the team."
Mindy Price chats with Rommel Anacan about leading others as we emerge from such an uncomfortable and unpredictable time due to the pandemic. They first discuss burnout and what you can do when you are overworked, overstressed, and overwhelmed. Rommel advises leaders to empathize with others and give them permission to feel what they are feeling, to encourage people to be vulnerable, to equip them and teach tools for success, and to establish a positive environment of support and encouragement.
Rommel also offers tips for managing time and creating balance, which will ultimately help reduce stress and burnout, as well. He encourages people to identify The One Thing—that one most important task that much be accomplished that day—and tackle that first. After that, it’s important to dispel the myth that you can do everything and, instead, prioritize other tasks in your day while also setting boundaries in order to care for yourself.
Finally, Mindy and Rommel reflect on the most important qualities a leader should possess and practice. Rommel notes that effective leaders have a vision and purpose, and that purpose holds their team together. He emphasizes how great leaders know they can’t do it alone and so they invest in people, stressing the importance of connection: “Good leaders are competent, but great leaders connect.”
