People care about the company they work for. The best plan wins. Work-life balance matters most. Perhaps these statements seem like basic truths of our work lives today.

In fact, there are nine lies about the workplace that are seeds of dysfunction and frustration within organizations, according to Marcus Buckingham, an international expert on strengths and leadership at work. In his most recent book, Nine Lies About Work: A Freethinking Leader’s Guide to the Real World, he outlines why these misconceptions can result in workplaces that are a pale shadow of what they could be. Yet, if business leaders can move past the lies and discover what’s real about their people, they often will recognize the power of our individual uniqueness, he asserts.
Buckingham will explore his insights about how to turn talent into performance during the 2021 J Turner Research Summit, Dec. 12-14 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
